      Structure fire on Canal Road

      Shortly after noon on March 2, 2018 the Westport Fire Department received multiple calls reporting a structure fire on Canal Road. The Westport Fire Department responded with 5 engine companies, 1 ladder truck, 1 Rescue, 1 High Water Rescue Truck and the Shift Commander. Engine 4 arrived and found Canal Road covered with over one foot of water.

      March 5 2018~SMFR dispatched Local 2164 members to the area of Quincy Avenue and E-470 for reports of a large vegetation fire. A plume of smoke and dust was visible from several miles away. As units approached the scene, the fire was determined to be in the City of Aurora with Aurora Fire Rescue already battling the flames. SMFR provided mutual aid assistance along with Sable Altura Fire Rescue.

      Just after 4 p.m. on March 4, 2018, Local 2164 and 2086 members responded to a vegetation fire threatening an apartment building at 6864 S. Ivy Way. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames and cool the area down before any extension into the building occurred. No injuries occurred and investigators were called to the scene. http://www.southmetro.

      The Southeast Metro Task Force deployed on March 4, 2018 with units from SMFR, Littleton Fire Rescue, Aurora Fire Rescue and Sable Altura Fire Rescue. An additional 5 overhead personnel, Brush Truck, Medic Unit and Tender also responded as single resources. South Metro personnel assisted at the staging area, with structure protection, fire suppression, medical standby and overall incident safety.

The Washington State Council of Fire Fighters is pleased to present the 2018 “Ricky J. Walsh” Fully Involved Award application process. The award shall be presented to those who have, as union members, proven their commitment to the greater good, dedicated their time and energy to better their local and/or those around them, and have placed others before self. The Fully Involved Award is our way to highlight members’ work, dedication, and commitment to our profession and our great union.

A member may be nominated by his or her local, other locals, and/or the WSCFF Executive Board. A name presented for consideration must include the member’s full name, local number, and the reason he or she should be considered. Be as detailed as possible when submitting a name. An individual may be nominated for his or her work on a specific project, or over the course of his or her career.

The WSCFF President has appointed a committee of five (5) WSCFF board members who will review the nominees and provide a recommendation to the WSCFF Executive Board.

Nominations will open on February 1, and close on March 31, 2018.  To be considered, letters must be emailed or postmarked on or before March 31, 2018.

Emailed submissions will be sent to  with Fully Involved in the subject line or mail them to the WSCFF office, ATTN: Fully Involved.

We know there are many members doing great work and look forward to your submissions.
